Upcoming Hikes:
Jan – No Hike this month
Feb 25th – Green Valley Forest Preserve
Pack Hikes are held on a monthly basis, GENERALLY on the Saturday following the Pack Meeting and usually at 9:00am. ALL official hikes are open to ALL registered Cub Scouts.
We also need to make sure that you have a current Medical Form on file for you and any other members of your family going on this hike. If you are unsure if you or a member of your family who is hiking has the form on file or not, please contact Pack leadership BEFORE the hike. If we do not have a medical form for you or a family member, they/you will not be allowed to hike.
Parents who choose to bring siblings along will be responsible for their safety and for making sure that they keep up with the other hikers. Parents should exercise caution when deciding whether to bring a sibling along as one of the stated purposes of the Hiking Program is that it is for exercise, and therefore we want to keep everyone moving. These will be hikes, not leisurely strolls (no meandering allowed).
The hike will start PROMPTLY at 9:00am, so please be on time. All hikers on Pack Hikes must check in with the Hiking Coordinator(s) before hiking. Hikers should plan to be at Pack Hikes by 8 :45am
Notes:
1. All Hikes Start at 9am SHARP (unless otherwise noted). Plan on being there at 8:45am to check in with the group and to do a final check of your gear. As a courtesy to others, we will leave on time so that we can be back on time.
2. We plan on setting a pace to hike a mile in about 20 – 25 minutes. Please plan on that when deciding when you will be done and whether or not to bring your son or younger siblings along.
3. Each boy will carry their own backpack (book bag type is OK) and will be expected to carry their own water / supplies.
4. Suggested Gear to Bring: Flashlight, Compass, Spare Clothes (Especially Warm Socks), Good Shoes (Hiking Boots Preferred – Gym Shoes do not repel water or cold), Water, Snacks, Rain Gear, Sunglasses, Pocket Knife (must have Whittling Chip), Personal First Aid Kit, Whistle, Insect & Sun Repellant, Notebook and Writing Instruments. The Hike Leader will bring the Pack’s First Aid Kit and carry it. Also Walkie Talkies.
5. We will hike rain or shine so invest in rain gear and good hiking boots if you plan on attending some of the wetter ones. We will cancel if there is lightning or other hazardous weather however. Be sure to dress for the weather (whatever type is predicted).
